Alles anzeigenSeit dem Auftauchen der Karka in Löwenstein ist es recht still um sie geworden, doch auf Reddit wurde heute morgen ein Thread erstellt, in dem es um einen „potenziellen Nachfolger“ des Uralten Karkas ging, den wir im November 2012 bezwungen haben. Entwickler Barefoot Matthew hat daraufhin eine Antwort verfasst, in der es um die körperliche und um die soziale Struktur der Karka geht.
So haben Karka keinen König und keine Königin im klassischen Sinne, da sie hermaphrodite Kreaturen, also jeweils männlich und weiblich zugleich, sind. Ein Uralter Karka ist demnach der Anführer einer Kolonie und ohne ihn bricht die Kolonie auseinander, solange bis ein neuer Karka an die Spitze kommt oder ein anderer Uralt Karka die Kolonie oder Teile davon übernimmt. Die Kolonie teilt sich laut Matthew in Eierleger, Kolonie-Wächter, Nahrungssammler und weitere Aufgaben auf, wobei jeder Karka theoretisch in der Lage ist Eier zu legen.
Der Begriff Karka-Königin ist irreführend, da es sich bei der Königin meist um die älteste Eierlegerin handelt. Manche dieser Königinnen leben lange genug, um zu einem Uralt Karka zu werden.

Karka don’t really have a king or queen, per se – in large part because they’re hermaphroditic. There’s the ancient karka which is the head of the colony – a karka colony is run from the top down in chronological order – without an ancient karka to lead a colony, it breaks up and the remaining karka are sort of lost until another ancient rises or comes in to take over the colony. There is a subset of karka that were dubbed „egg-layers“, who are the more fertile of the karka within a specific colony, though all karka are at least capable of egg production. At the mid-level of karka colonies, there are distinct roles that karka fulfill like egg-laying, colony guards, food gathering, etc.
The designation of a karka „queen“ is something of a misnomer in that this is usually just the most senior of the karka egg-layers – a „queen“ in this case isn’t particularly special, nor is that karka „in charge“ of the colony, unless it lives long enough to grow into an ancient. Fortunately for Tyrians, ancient karka are exceptionally rare.
